Varanasi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been granted permission by the Allahabad High Court to proceed with a survey of the mosque complex in Varanasi. This survey aims to uncover the background of the mosque and determine whether it was built after demolishing the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi survey case, mentioned that the Allahabad HC upheld the Sessions courts order allowing ASI to conduct this survey.

It is important to note that month a Varanasi court had already given permission for ASI to conduct a survey excluding an area called Wazukhana which reportedly houses a structure believed to be a Shivling.

After the Varanasi court’s decision, The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee challenged this order issued by Varanasi District Judge on July 21. However, their plea was dismissed by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya responded to this court decision. He also expressed his support for it. He believes that through ASIs survey, the truth will come out and ultimately lead to resolving the Gyanvapi issue. The survey aims to provide insights into the importance of the mosque and its connection, to the Kashi Vishwanath temple. This will contribute to an understanding of the religious heritage of the site.
