Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was taken into custody today as he staged a sit-out protest at his residence. This protest erupted after the Samajwadi President was denied permission to go to Lakhimpur Kheri to visit the kin of four farmers who died in a violent outburst on Sunday. Leaders like Ram Gopal Yadav, Anand Bhaduria and several others stood in support of the Samajwadi Chief.

“Even the British did not commit such atrocities as much as the BJP government is doing on the farmers. The Minister of State for Home and the Deputy Chief Minister should resign. Rs 2 crore should be given to the farmers who have lost their lives. Their families should be given government jobs,” Mr Yadav said. Security was beefed up at his residence Vikramaditya Marg after the protest gathered huge supporters. All roads to his residence were blocked by police personnel and restricted any movement.

Meanwhile, Punjab Govt Civil Aviation Director wrote to UP Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi, requesting landing permission for CM Charanjit Singh Channi.

Earlier today, Congress leaders Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Deputy CM were denied permission to land at the Amausi Airport Lucknow. In an escalating confrontation, CM Baghel and Ms Priyanka slammed the Yogi Government for this behaviour while the party members called this move by the UP Government insulting.
