Ajmer: The Ajmer Police on Tuesday night nabbed the Khadim of Ajmer Dargah for alleged remarks giving a provocative statement on Nupur Sharma, whose derogatory statement against Prophet raised sparked high voltage tension nationwide.
The accused is identified as Salman Chishti, the khadim (caretaker) of Ajmer dargah, said Additional Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan. An FIR was lodged against the Chisti on Monday night after the video surfaced. “He was nabbed from his house and is being questioned,” Sangwan said. “It seems he was in an inebriated state when the video was made.” According to Dargah Station House Officer Dalveer Singh Faujdar Chishti has a criminal record.
In the video message, the khadim announces a reward for whosoever beheaded Nupur Sharma. Chishti in the video is openly threatening to kill Nupur Sharma, citing his religious sentiments. “I swear by my mother who gave birth to me, I would have shot her publicly. I swear by my children, I would have shot her and even today I say, whoever brings Nupur Sharma’s head, I will give him my house. Salman promises this”- Chisti was heard saying.
Four persons have been arrested so far in connection with another provocative speech delivered at the main gate of the same dargah on June 17th.
