On Sunday, an Air India flight on a route between John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City and the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi was on a precautionary diversion to Shannon Airport in Ireland after a suspected technical problem was detected.

The airline claimed that the airplane AI102 was diverted due to a precautionary reason since the crew noticed a potential technical anomaly during the flight. The plane was safely landed at Shannon Airport at approximately 4.30 am local time. The authorities were able to confirm that there were no injuries or illnesses among any of the passengers or crew on board.

Air India has stated that the aircraft is undergoing an elaborate technical check according to the prescribed safety protocols. Engineers and aviation regulating agencies are in the process of looking into the plane to be able to establish the actual cause of the problem before it can start operating again.

The airline underlined that this type of precautionary diversions is carried out on a strictly grounded interest of the safety of the passengers. Air India also apologized to the inconvenience that it had caused to the travellers because of the unforeseen disturbance.

In the meantime, the airline is liaising with the authorities at the Shannon Airport and local agencies to offer help to passengers and crew. Plans are in progress such that they will be made comfortable and they can proceed to New Delhi as soon as the situation is sorted once the situation is fixed.
