On Friday, Air India announced that every passenger on its flight from Delhi to San Francisco—which was forced to divert to Russia owing to a technical issue—is safe and receiving all required assistance. According to the airline, the cockpit crew of flight AI183 noticed a possible problem in the cargo hold area, so they made a precautionary landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport in the Russian Krasnoyarsk Krai.
There were 19 flight crew members and 225 passengers on the aircraft. The airline claims that each of them was brought to the terminal building for additional processing. Air India further stated that, due to its lack of facilities at Krasnoyarsk International Airport, it is making arrangements for outside assistance to give travelers the necessary help.
“We are arranging for third-party support to provide all necessary assistance to passengers as Air India does not have its own staff at KJA,” the airline said in a statement. “Air India is also in touch with regulatory bodies and government agencies. We are setting up a ferry flight to KJA so that passengers can travel to San Francisco as soon as possible.”
“Since everyone at Air India cares about the customers and employees, we are doing everything in our power to get the ferry flight running as soon as possible and to keep everyone safe and secure while they wait. As soon as more details are available, we’ll let you know,” it stated.
