Air India Express, a subsidiary of Air India and part of the Tata Group, is ready to fly directly from Kolkata to Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The airline spokesperson states that the new route will begin operations on March 1 and that the new route represents a major expansion to the airline’s domestic connectivity.
The Kolkata-Hindon flight will fly daily from Kolkata at 7:10 a m to Hindon at 9:30 a m. For the return flight from Hindon to Kolkata, the Kolkata to Hindon flight will operate six days a week, except on Saturdays and will take off at 5:20 PM and land at Kolkata at 7:40 PM. This service has been introduced, which is expected to offer greater convenience to passengers on travel from eastern India to the National Capital Region (NCR).
Significantly, Air India Express will be the first airline to operate a jet engine airliner from this field; Kolkata will be the first and major destination for a bigger aircraft in this field. So far, Hindon Airport has been the venue for short-haul flights implemented by smaller airlines.
This expansion will now give Air India Express a footprint at two important airports of the NCR, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi and Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. It is hoped that the route will prove useful to travellers from Central and Eastern Delhi, Noida and neighbouring areas like Akshardham, Anand Vihar, Connaught Place, Indirapuram, Karol Bagh, and Vaishali of taking commute as the route is more convenient and easily accessible.
It is in line with Air India Express’ long-term objective of expanding regional connectivity and providing options for travel to its passengers. The introduction of these flights is anticipated to increase accessibility as well as reduce congestion at IGI Airport owing to the increasing air traffic demand.
