Air India experienced a disruption on Tuesday, June 17, after several international flights were either cancelled or delayed as a result of precaution checks and technical problems. Some of the affected services include the AI143 flight that has been cancelled between Delhi and Paris due to technical problems with the aircraft being checked during pre-flight checks. Through an official statement, the airline confirmed that it had cancelled flights, and limitations at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport were one of the reasons used to reach such a decision.
The flight AI143 operating from Delhi to Paris on 17 June is cancelled. The required pre-flight check disclosed the presence of a problem that is already being dealt with. An Air India spokesperson, however, taking into consideration the flight being subjected to the limitations of night flights at the Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, said the flight has been cancelled.
The affected passengers are all promised accommodation in hotels, a full cash refund facility or a free rescheduling service by the airline. Due to the cancellation of the Delhi-Paris flight, the flight AI142 from Paris to Delhi was also cancelled on the same day.
It was the second Air India flight that was cancelled on Tuesday. Earlier, flight AI159 between Ahmedabad and London Gatwick had to be cancelled because of the absence of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. According to an official at Ahmedabad airport, aircraft were unavailable due to long turnaround time owing to airspace restrictions and other precautionary safety measures, but not due to any technical snag.
In yet another incident, a San Francisco-Mumbai flight faced a mid-journey inconvenience and was forced to stop at Kolkata-Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. The stopover saw the deplaning of passengers after a technical hitch was found in one of the plane’s engines.
Such events have cast a shadow on recent operational reliability in Air India, which requires maintenance procedures and airline readiness to be looked into with greater attention.
