Air India Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Campbell Wilson has made an official statement after the diligence by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) issued the preliminary report on the June 12 accident of the flight AI171 in Ahmedabad. Wilson added in his statement that the AAIB report duly indicates that there were no mechanical or maintenance concerns relating either to the aircraft or the engine.
This accident drew questions in the minds of the people and the professionals in the field of aviation, but Wilson made it clear that no fault of the technical variety could be attributed in the preliminary investigation report. Wilson, according to a news agency, said that the first report by AAIB showed no cause and made no recommendations. He also encouraged every stakeholder and the general population to exercise caution by not making any premature conclusions on the report until the conclusive report is released.
According to the AAIB report, which came out on Saturday, there was nothing to create the sense of immediate corrective action with regard to Boeing 787-8 or the GE Enx-1B engines they carry. The mechanical findings do not give too much relief to the national carrier and its fleet management operations.
Although they have not found noted faults, Wilson insisted that Air India was on the guard. “We are still running all the possible checks in our existing fleet,” he said, “and the airline would also be in compliance with any additional inspections or recommendations given in the future by the authorities.”
Wilson’s intention behind this statement is to boost the trust of the people in the safety and maintenance standards used by Air India. It is also an indication of how the airline is keen on being transparent and being pro active in compliance with the standards of aviation safety. Follow-ups are still in progress but the overall report of AAIB is that it will play a critical role in giving a final report of how the actual events occurred as well as any operational or procedure related issues that were prevalent during the June 12 incident.
