On Sunday, Air India stated that it canceled several domestic and international flights, and among them was a service to Europe and the Gulf region because the rising tension in the Middle East had a crippling effect on air travel. The move comes after the growing Iran-US conflict that spread to the whole region following reports of Iran targeting US facilities in various countries in the Gulf.

Air India, in an official release, claimed that it is closely monitoring the developing situation in security and that it has also gone ahead and further curtailed scheduled operations as a precautionary step. The airline focused on the fact that the safety and security of its passengers and the crew are its top priority.

It is reported that most of the flights that would have travelled to the Gulf had to be cancelled at four major international airports in Kerala. In spite of the travel advisories to passengers to confirm flight status in advance before going to the airports, most travellers were observed waiting in the terminals as they hoped that services would be resumed.

In the meantime, the functioning in the Dubai International Airport was also stopped after it was reported that the Iranian drone hit the aviation hub, bringing about minimal destruction to one of the terminal structures and injuring four persons. A flight tracking data shows that by Sunday morning, all arrivals and departures in Dubai airport were cancelled.

The mass disruptions of flights are in the wake of combined US-Israel attacks on Iran and subsequent backlash of Tehran. As some nations in the region shut down their airspace, international airlines are diversifying or halting flights, causing travelling frustrations.
