A 30-year-old techie from Agra in Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Monday, February 24 and left behind a video in which he accused his wife of driving him to do so. He was employed as a manager in an Information Technology firm in Mumbai, whose name was the deceased, and resided at Defence Colony in Agra.
Police reports say the man was recently married, having copped an April 30 wedding. Comprising his father, who filed a complaint that the couple had gone to Agra on 23 February and gone to his daughter-in-law’s home. During that time, something was said to the deceased, and he got deeply affected as the person had insulted him, remained deeply impacted, said a police official.
He was very distressed by the incident and returned home in such a disturbed mental state that he recorded another video statement explaining the reasons for his decision. According to the complaint, he hanged himself in what was believed to have been a suicide around 5 AM on February 24. Before he died, he blamed his wife for his mental anguish and begged authorities to ‘think about men.’ Speaking, he also made a plea, ‘Don’t touch my parents after my death.’
Shortly after, the wife put out a counter statement disputing the charges. Moreover, she said that her husband had a history of abusive behavior, most notably when intoxicated. She further said he tried to commit suicide and she had saved his life.
The discussion on social media has been sparked by the case: mental health, domestic disputes and gender dynamics in marital issues. There is currently an investigation by authorities to discover what caused the tragedy, and the legal action that relates to it will be decided by them.
