New Delhi: The panel constituted by the centre to study side-effects of the vaccine has confirmed the death of a citizen following vaccination against the virus.

As per Adverse Effects Following Immunization (AEFI), a 68-year-old succumbed to the virus due to anaphylaxis after taking a dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

As per the vaccination records, the 68 year old received his vaccine shot on March 8,2021.  “It is the first death that we have seen where the reason of death after an investigation was found to be anaphylaxis after vaccination,” Dr NK Arora, chairperson, national AEFI committee, said.

Of the 31 deaths assessed by the AEFI committee, 18 were classified as having an inconsistent causal association to vaccination  (not linked to vaccination), seven were classified as indeterminate and two cases were found to be unclassifiable. Vaccine product related reactions are expected reactions that can be attributed to vaccination based on scientific evidence.

The AEFI data from the Union Health Ministry states that between January 16 and June 7, 26,200 AEFI cases were reported. MoHFW reported 39,27,154 vaccinations administered in the last 24 hours. So far, 25,90,44,072 individuals have been vaccinated under the national immunization drive.
