Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay Files Petition in SC; Demands Anti-Corruption Courts in the Districts
New Delhi: On Monday, Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, with a plea of the foundation of anti-corruption courts in each district of the states and the UTs, which will judge cases related to corruption activities within a year and will not stretch a case for years to reach a verdict.
The petition seeks directions for the High Courts across the state to give verdict on cases such as corruption, tax evasion, black money, corporate fraud, money laundering, bribery, disproportionate assets, unnamed property, and so on.
According to Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay, he has “filed the petition in view of the corruption watchdog ‘Transparency International’ placing India at 80th position in the Corruption Perception Index earlier this year.” The report stated that India got the 80th position in the ‘Corruption Perception Index’ because of poor performance in the justice system, weak anti-corruption laws, long pendency for the cases.
The petition, filed by Advocate Upadhyay, seeks – “Direct Centre, States, and Union Territories to establish special anti-corruption courts in every district to decide the cases relating to black money, Benami property, disproportionate assets, bribery, money laundering, tax evasion, profiteering, hoarding, adulteration, black marketing, human and drug trafficking, cheating, fraud, forgery, dishonest misappropriation of property, corporate fraud, forensic fraud, foreign exchange and other economic offenses within one year”.
