Ramya, Divya Spandana, the former Congress MP and actress, welcomed on Monday a Supreme Court ruling to quash the bail already given to Kannada actor Darshan in the circumstances surrounding the Renukaswamy murder case. Appearing before the media, Ramya has claimed that the judgment is a lesson to all that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law and no one should be treated differently due to their status or even their popularity.

It was noted by Ramya that the general population had also complained about the Karnataka High Court giving Darshan bail. She welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the refusal of bail granted earlier by the High Court, as she believes that the verdict was due to the consensus of the larger population. She also stressed the fact that the judgment sends a stern warning that the fact that law will breathe its own breath and justice will prevail.

An earlier bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan of the Supreme Court had set aside earlier this week the order of the Karnataka High Court, which had granted bail to Darshan and the other accused, actress Pavithra Gowda. This case has raised much public interest because both Darshan and Gowda have been accused of kidnapping and torturing Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, and killing him.

After the ruling of the apex court, Darshan, along with Pavithra Gowda, was re-arrested. The decision has been seen as ma ilestone in terms of making sure that a celebrity status does not interfere with justice.

Ramya, who had previously shared her thoughts on an Instagram post-judgment, repeated that the judgment sends a strong message. … Giving a strong message by today’s SC judgment, she wrote, all are equal before the law. To her, overturning her bail is not only a success in a court of law but also an assurance that people hold their faith in the system.
