The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted further heavy rainfall in certain areas in the northwest of India till Tuesday. In the last 24 hours, some parts of India, such as Punjab and Haryana, have received considerable to excessive precipitation. Rains have also been considerable in isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. In the meantime, heavy rain was witnessed in a few locations in Jammu & Kashmir, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.

The monsoon trough is now positioned as seen in normal seasons, and so there is active weather in the northwest of India. The upper air cyclonic circulation is located over the northwest Bay of Bengal, around the Odisha-West Bengal coasts, in the lower and middle troposphere and tilts to the south with increasing height. This movement is likely to be strengthened, and this may, in the next 48 hours, increase the likelihood of a low-pressure area forming over the area, which would again generate more rainfall.

There is also another upper air cyclonic circulation over south Haryana and north east Rajasthan, which is inclined southwards with altitude. At the lower levels, a connecting trough connects this circulation over Haryana and northeast Rajasthan to the cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Such a connection is causing volatile weather conditions in the atmospheric conditions, resulting in excessive rainfall and thunderstorms in vulnerable hotspots.

The IMD has also indicated that a western disturbance is influencing the Western Himalayas, which further enhanced raining in the northern states. The synergistic impact of the monsoon trough, cyclonic circulations, as well as western disturbances is causing active monsoon conditions over northeast India at the present time. People are asked to maintain caution regarding localised floods, waterlogging and landslides in hilly areas, and agriculturalists and the government should be ready to face the current heavy rain situation.

All in all, these weather patterns are likely to continue over the next days.
