The Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, has been bestowed with the extra responsibility of Maharashtra with the election of CP Radhakrishnan as the Vice President of India. Radhakrishnan, the former Governor of Maharashtra, emerged as a victor in the vice presidential elections that were conducted on September 9. Supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), he was elected with 452 votes to 300 of the polled votes to the candidate of the opposition INDIA bloc, a former Supreme Court judge named B. Sudershan Reddy.
When Radhakrishnan was elevated to become the second-highest constitutional office in the country, the gubernatorial office in Maharashtra was left vacant. The Union government has vested Acharya Devvrat with this added responsibility to help the smooth administration of the administration, and he will now undertake this role alongside his current role in Gujarat.
Acharya Devvrat is not new to gubernatorial positions. He was the Governor of Himachal Pradesh between August 2015 and July 2019, before assuming the charge as Governor of Gujarat in July 2019. His career has not only been characterised by governance, but also by his active participation in education, culture and sustainable farming activities.
Devvrat is a successful scholar, with a Master’s degree in History and Hindi, a Bachelor’s in Education and a Diploma in Yoga Science. He also has a doctorate in Naturopathy and Yogic Science. His background indicates that he is interested in holistic education and the traditional Indian formulations of education. In addition, his administrative work, he is an admired lecturer in Vedic human values and Vedic philosophy.
Besides, Acharya Devvrat has been making a major input in natural farming, sensitising people on sustainable farming methods and cow-breed development programs. His effort has played a major role in persuading farmers to go green in their practices.
His appointment will gain Maharashtra the experience of governance, as well as his emphasis on traditional values and sustainable development, and keep serving as the Governor of Gujarat.
