Udhampur: During the Amarnath Yatra in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, a security convoy vehicle encountered an accident early Friday morning, resulting in injuries to four individuals, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), as confirmed by the police.
The unfortunate incident occurred when the convoy vehicle, part of the Amarnath Yatra security operations, veered off the Jammu-Srinagar highway near Bali Nallah in Udhampur, plunging into a drain alongside the road.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, the accident caused injuries to four people who have been promptly transferred to Udhampur District Hospital for medical treatment. Among the injured is a deputy superintendent of police, as informed by SSP Kumar. Further details are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
In the meantime, Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated the first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from the Jammu base camp early Friday. The initial group of pilgrims departed for Pahalgam and Baltal, under the vigilant protection of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.
The Amarnath Yatra, spanning 62 days from July 1 to August 31, holds immense significance for Hindu devotees who undertake the pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave, believed to be the dwelling place of Lord Shiva. The journey commences from the ancient paths of Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir, where pilgrims embark on their sacred trek.
