New Delhi: India recorded 9,119 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.33 per cent accounted for10,264 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,39,67,962. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.79 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 52 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 1,09,940; accounting for 0.32 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 1541 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.35 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 396 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,66,980.
Citing striking surges in coronavirus cases in several countries, the Union Health Ministry has written to 13 states and union territories, including West Bengal, Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab, expressing concerns over declining weekly testing rates and spiking positivity rates in some districts. Nagaland, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Kerala, Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Ladakh, were instructed to maintain high testing rates given the recent increase in travelling due to events like marriages, festivals and vacations.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Family Health and Welfare, so far 119.38 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country , including 90.27 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours. Over 11.50 lakh infected samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours. So far 63.59 crore infected samples have been tested by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
