New Delhi: Crime against women continuous unabated in the national capital. A criminal sees no age before committing the heinous crime. In a horrible incident, an 87-year-old woman was molested and raped in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Sunday afternoon. So far, no accused has been arrested and the investigations are on, police added.
The victim reportedly bedridden lives with her 65-year-old daughter, who then had gone out for personal work. According to the family, the aged lady was bleeding when the daughter returned home. Seeing her in such a situation, the panicked daughter approached the police to file a complaint on the unknown criminal. As per the insights given in by the victim, the criminal disguised as a gas agency employee came home at 12:30 pm, suspecting his actions the lady screamed for help, however, the criminal muted her and committed the crime leaving the house at 1:30 pm.
According to the Delhi police, the victim’s daughter on 13.2.2022 in a written complaint had claimed that there has been a robbery at her house and wanted to register an FIR. The case for rape was included on Monday. Family members of the octogenarian said that the police ‘manipulated’ them into registering only a theft case.
Additional commissioner of police (West) Prashant Gautam on Monday said based on the allegations made out in the first complaint of the victim, a case under the IPC section pertaining to theft was registered at the Tilak Nagar police station. Now, sexual assault has been alleged by the victim, “we are adding relevant sections to the FIR”, he said and added that teams have been formed to apprehend the accused.
Taking note of the incident DCW has provided two counsellors to the victim who could help her with the trauma. The police have been instructed to submit a report including the details of the accused and a detailed report of the matter by February 17th.
