New Delhi: Continuing to showcase a rising trend in coronavirus infections, India in the past 24 hours registered 59,075 new cases taking its tally to 1,18,46,088. As many as 257 fatalities were reported by the Union Health Ministry, taking the death toll to 1,60,983.  It is reported by MoHFW; that 88% of COVID deaths are observed in the age group of 45 years and above. 

Active cases have risen to more than 4.21 lakh with the new addition. Maharashtra scaled a fresh single-day record with 35,952 cases, which is almost 62 percent of the cases in India. Punjab, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh are now reporting around 2,500 cases each daily. MoHFW has reported 32, 914 recuperations in the past 24 hours. The total count of recoveries stands at 1,12,62,505.

This is the highest rise recorded after the mutant strain arrived in the country. While Maharashtra ranked number one, BMC has banned Holi celebrations in the Capital. Authorities will also carry out the Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) of people in public places.

The government has temporarily halted the export of the vaccine amid the surge.  Total 15,20,111 vaccine doses were given in the last session.  Out of which 14,07,520 beneficiaries were vaccinated for 1st dose and 1,12,591 HCWs and FLWs received 2nd dose of vaccine as per the provisional report. The citizens and the government hope for the vaccine to do its miracle and stop the surge.
