Hyderabad: A portion of an under-construction flyover in Hyderabad collapsed on Wednesday morning, injuring eight workers. The incident occurred on the Sagar Ring Road near Bairamalguda, where the flyover is being constructed at a traffic intersection.

The workers were laying slabs over the pillars when a small stretch collapsed, trapping them underneath. They were rescued by other workers and taken to a hospital, where two of them are said to be in critical condition.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but police suspect that it may have been due to poor quality of work or negligence. The contractor responsible for the construction has been summoned by the police for questioning.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of under-construction flyovers in Hyderabad. In recent years, there have been several cases of flyovers collapsing, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

In 2017, a flyover under construction in the city collapsed, killing 24 people and injuring several others. The collapse was blamed on poor quality of work and negligence.

In 2019, another flyover under construction in the city collapsed, injuring 15 people. The collapse was also blamed on poor quality of work and negligence.

The latest incident has renewed calls for stricter safety measures to be implemented in the construction of flyovers in Hyderabad. The government has promised to take action to ensure that such accidents do not happen again.

In the meantime, the injured workers are being treated in hospital and the investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing.
