New Delhi: The centre on Wednesday held a meeting to hike the Dearness Allowance given to employees at the central offices. The Union Cabinet in a meeting last year had put to hold the allowances report sources. The DA was raised from 17percent currently to 28 percent.
The announcement from the centre has brought huge relief for the employees considering the coronavirus pandemic situation. Since most of the central government employees worked during the pandemic, putting their lives at risk.
The move comes on the back of several media reports speculating that dearness allowance benefits under the Seventh Central Pay Commission (7th CPC) would be restored in July.
An earlier report suggested that it could take a while for the employees to get the hiked DA as several approvals are required. For any such delay, central government employees are likely to get arrears accruing from July 1, 2021.
At least three DA instalments were due before the hike was approved by the cabinet — one from last year and two from this year. An 11 per cent DA hike has been approved as part of the three pending instalments.
Earlier in a meeting held last year, the government had decided to hold the DA and (DR ) Dearness relief to central government pensioners from 1 January 2020 amidst the pandemic crisis.
