New Delhi: India recorded 7,495 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.40 per cent accounted for 6,960 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,42,08,926.
The number of active cases stood at 78,190 accounting for 0.23 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 907 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.38 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 434 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,78,759.
The fast spreading Omicron infection has now infected 236 people in India, with the highest in Maharashtra followed by national capital. Southern states Telangana reports 24 case while Karnataka, and Kerala have logged 19 and 15 cases respectively. Rajasthan which stood after Telangana logged 21 infections and Gujarat reported 14 cases.
Of the total infections, Kerala contributed majorly to the rise followed by Maharashtra which recorded its highest single-day spike in 48 days as the state capital Mumbai alone reported 490 new cases. Meanwhile, Delhi also recorded highest rise after six months.
In view of the surge, PM Modi is scheduled to chair a review meeting with the respective authorities at 6:30 pm on Thursday. As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 139.69 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country including 70.17 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
