In a significant blow to the international drug trade, authorities have intercepted a boat laden with over 700 kilograms of methamphetamine off the coast of Gujarat’s Porbandar district. This major drug bust, carried out as part of Operation Sagar Manthan, involved a joint operation between the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

The operation, conducted overnight at sea, led to the arrest of eight individuals who claimed to be Iranian nationals. These suspects are currently under interrogation to unravel the intricate network behind the drug smuggling operation. Investigators are working diligently to determine the origin of the methamphetamine and its intended destination.

While the exact market value of such a large quantity of drugs is difficult to ascertain, experts estimate it to be in the range of ₹2-5 crore. This staggering figure underscores the immense profitability of the illicit drug trade and the significant threat it poses to society.

The seizure of this massive drug haul highlights the increasing sophistication of transnational drug trafficking networks. These organizations often employ advanced techniques to evade detection and transport illicit substances across borders. The successful interception of this consignment demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies in combating drug smuggling.

Operation Sagar Manthan, a comprehensive initiative aimed at disrupting drug trafficking activities in the Indian Ocean region, has proven to be a crucial tool in the fight against drug crime. By combining intelligence sharing, surveillance, and coordinated operations, law enforcement agencies are making significant strides in dismantling drug syndicates and preventing the flow of illicit substances into the country.
