New Delhi: India recorded 6,990 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.35 per cent accounted for 10,116 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,40,18,299. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.69 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 57 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 1,00,543 accounting for 0.29 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 3316 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.36 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 190 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,68,980.

A passenger back from South Africa has tested positive for a Covid strain “different than Delta”, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Tuesday and added that the state government is closely looking at the new ‘Omicron’ strain that has set off alarm bells across the country. Samples of the individual have been sent for genome sequencing he informed.

Meanwhile, a woman from Botswana, a military officer, arrived in Jabalpur, MP for training in College of Materials Management on Nov 18. As per protocol, she has been quarantined. She is asymptomatic & fully vaccinated.
