New Delhi: In the latest development from the conflict zone Sumy, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri informed that all the Indians stranded in the Ukrainian city were en-route Poltava- a city in central Ukraine through evacuation buses.
“Last night I checked with the control room 694 Indian students were remaining in Sumy. Today, they have all left in buses for Poltava, the Union Minister was heard saying pressing the media about the development.
Hours later at 4:30 pm (IST), another round of evacuation began as per the information given by Governor Sumy region.
Meanwhile, the Indian mission in Ukraine on Tuesday said it successfully evacuated 52 out of the 75 Indian sailors stranded at the Port of Mykolaiv- isolated after the Russian laid huge attacks.
“Mission intervened to evacuate 75 Indian sailors stranded in Mykolaiv Port. Yesterday buses arranged by Mission evacuated a total of 57 sailors including 2 Lebanese & 3 Syrians,” the Indian Embassy in Ukraine said in a tweet.
“Route constraints precluded evacuation of balance 23 sailors. The mission is attempting their evacuation today,” it added.
The Russians on Tuesday announced a ceasefire saying it was ready to set up a humanitarian corridor for those stranded in Sumy from 12:30 pm local time, provided the Ukrainian side agreed. However, Defence Dept in Ukraine claimed that the Kremlin violated the ceasefire and breached the truce while the civilian evacuation was being held in Kyiv.
