New Delhi: India reported 60,753 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 2,97,42,712, stated the Union Health Ministry. A third Covid wave in India is “inevitable”, and it could hit the country in the next six to eight weeks, AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Guleria, amid unlocking in various states after weeks of strict restrictions.
A new frontier will have to be developed in India’s fight against Covid to further study the mutation of the virus, AIIMS chief said.
The recovery rate at 96.16 percent accounted for 97,743 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 2,86,78,390. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.98%, less than 5% for 12 consecutive days.
The number of active cases has reduced to 7,60,019 accounting for 2.55 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 38,637 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.29 per cent reported 1,647 deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to 3,85,137.
ICMR tested 19,02,009 infected samples in the last 24 hours. So far, ICMR has tested 38,92,07,637 infected samples since the initiation of the pandemic.
As per MoHFW, 33,00,085 citizens were vaccinated in the past 24 hours. Since the initiation of the national immunization drive, 27,23,88,783 individuals have been immunized against the novel virus.
