Jammu and Kashmir: Six border police officers (ITBP) died on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir after the bus in which they were travelling, ran off a road and fell into a river.
According to reports, the accident occurred at the Chandanwari in the Anantnag district, and was caused by a brake failure and injured at least 30 other passengers. It added that the security officers were returning from their shift at the Amarnath Yatra. The bus accident occurred while on the way from Chandanwari to Pahalgam carrying 39 members of the security forces, including two from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and 37 from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Kashmir Zone Police tweeted that “Six ITBP personnel were martyred in a road accident in the Anantnag district near Chandanwari Pahalgam, while several others are injured, who are currently being airlifted to the Army hospital in Srinagar for treatment. We’ll get more information soon “
According to Piyush Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, medical teams at the Anantnag district hospital, Government Medical College, and sub-district hospital in Seer have engaged in the treatment of the injured officers. Following the accident, up to 19 ambulances were dispatched to the spot, and the local authorities launched a significant rescue operation.
The victims’ bodies are kept at the Pahalgam Civil Hospital, while those who sustained serious injuries received first aid and were transported to the GMC Anantnag.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressed his condolences for the victims’ demises and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
