NEW DELHI: India added 5,357 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours taking the total number of COVID-19 infections to 4.47 crore (4,47,56,616). The active cases that account for 0.07 per cent of the total cases stood at 32,814.
The death toll rose to 5,30,965 with 11 deaths. While three deaths were reported from Gujarat, two were from Himachal Pradesh and one each from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh besides one reconciled by Kerala according to the updated data.
The fatality rate stood at 1.19 per cent while the national recovery rate was pegged at 98.74 per cent. The recuperations in the past 24 hours surged to 4,41,92,837.
According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
In respnse to the sudden surge in infections, several states have made masks mandatory again, while others advised to observe caution.
At a review meeting held earlier this week, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya asked states to stay alert and review the preparedness of health facilities. A nationwide mock drill is planned on Monday and Tuesday to assess emergency preparedness of both public and private hospitals.
