New Delhi: India reported  50,848  fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 2,97,75,447, stated the Union Health Ministry. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry reported the detection of 40 cases of the Delta Plus Variant.

The recovery rate at 96.56 percent accounted for  68,817 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to  2,89,94,855. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.67%, less than 5% for 16 consecutive days. 

The number of active cases has reduced to  6,43,194 accounting for 2.14 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of  19,327 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.30 per cent reported 1,358 deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to 3,89,302.

 India achieved a “historic milestone” on June 21; 88.09 lakh vaccine doses were administered in 24 hours. That number dipped to around 53.4 lakh yesterday. To meet the government’s target of vaccinating all adults by the end-2021, 97 lakh vaccinations need to be carried out per day. 

Nearly 40 cases of the ‘delta plus variant’; a mutation of the delta variant first detected in India are identified.  The government has tagged this version a “variant of concern” and warned three states -Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh of its possible spread.
