New Delhi: India recorded 44,877 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 97.55 per cent accounted for 1,17,591 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,15,85,711. The daily positivity rate stood at 3.17 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 5,37,045 accounting for 1.26 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a drop by 73,398 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate stood at 1.19 per cent recorded 684 fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,08,665.

Worst hit state Maharashtra reported 4,359 new cases during the last 24 hours. The cumulative case count stood at 78,39,447. Meanwhile, the national capital recorded 920 cases, with this, the national capital’s case count increased to 18,50,516.

The WHO on Friday, prequalified ‘Tocilizumab’, the arthritis drug for use in patients presenting severe symptoms. Reduced hospitalization and risk of death is cited as the reason for prequalification. Apart from this, Remdesivir and Steroid Dexamethasone were cleared earlier.

The health bulletin documented 172.81. crore cumulative vaccinations under the nationwide vaccination drive, including 49.16 lakh administrations in the past 24 hours. Booster doses are being given to frontline and healthcare workers and those above 60 with comorbidities. Vaccines for children between 5 and 15 years will be rolled out as soon as the centre gets recommendation to that effect from a group of experts, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Saturday.
