New Delhi: India reported 44,658 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.60 per cent accounted for 32,988 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,18,21,428. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.45 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 32 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 3,44,899 accounting for 1.06 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a rise of 11,174 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 496 deaths taking the cumulative death toll to 4,36,861. Kerala recorded 30,077 cases in the past 24 hours flagging the Southern belt as the second most affected.
As per MoHFW, 79.48 lakh citizens were immunized against the novel virus in the past 24 hours. So far, India successfully inoculated 61.22 crore beneficiaries under the nationwide vaccination drive. Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that the centre had successfully vaccinated 50 per cent of its eligible population with the first dose of the vaccine. “India achieves unprecedented milestone! 50 per cent of the eligible population inoculated with the first dose of #COVID-19 vaccines. Keep it up India. Let us fight Corona”, he posted.
