New Delhi: India reported 42,766 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 3,02,71,564; the Union Health Ministry reported. Meanwhile, The Kappa strain has been characterized by WHO as a Variant of Interest.
The recovery rate at 97.20 percent accounted for 45,254 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 2,99,33,538. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.19 percent, less than 3 per cent for 19 consecutive days.
The number of active cases has reduced to 4,55,033 accounting for 1.48 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 3,694 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.32 per cent reported a spike in deaths compared to yesterday recording 1206 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 407145.
