New Delhi: India recorded 41,806 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported.

The recovery rate at 97.28 per cent accounted for 39,130 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,01,43,850. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.15 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 24 consecutive days. 

The number of active cases stands at to 4,32,041 accounting for 1.39 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases stood at 2,095 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported 581 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,11,989.

Amid concern over an increase in the ‘R’ factor, or reproduction rate, of the coronavirus in some states and Union Territories, the Home Ministry has issued an advisory urging governments to ensure members of the public follow COVID-19 protocols. ‘R’ factor above 1.0 is an indicator of (high) spread of COVID-19. 

At a meeting with his council of ministers ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, PM Modi discussed preparations being made for a possible third wave – especially addressing the oxygen supply after the devastating experience of shortage during the second wave.  

So far, 39.13 crore beneficiaries have been vaccinated under the nationwide vaccination drive.
