New Delhi: India reported 37,154 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.22 per cent accounted for 39,649 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,00,14,713. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.59 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 21 consecutive days.
The number of active cases has reduced to 4,50,899 accounting for 1.46 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 3,219 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.32 per cent reported 724 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,08,764.
Dr Anthony Fauci, the US top coronavirus adviser, on Sunday characterized the Delta strain of COVID-19 as a “nasty variant”. “It is very clear that this is a nasty variant. It has a much greater capacity of transmitting from person to person,” Dr Fauci quoted. He added that the COVID vaccines being used in America to fight the coronavirus “are working very well” and do protect against the variant.
ICMR tested 14,32,343 infected samples in the past 24 hours, which took the cumulative count to 43,23,17,813. As per MoHFW, 12,35,287 beneficiaries were vaccinated in the past 24 hours. So far India vaccinated 37,73,52,501 citizens under the national vaccination drive.
