New Delhi: India recorded 36,571 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.54 per cent accounted for 36,555 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,15,61,635. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.94 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 25th consecutive days.
The number of active cases stands at 3,63,605 accounting for 1.12 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases declined by 524 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 540 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,33,589.
Kerala continues to remain a hotspot recording 21,116 cases in the past 24 hours. The Southern belt of India has been identified as a major contributor in the recent surge. Jharkhand reported zero COVID related deaths, 23 new positive cases and 25 recoveries in the last 24 hours.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said results of an ongoing research for development of COVID-19 vaccines for children may arrive next month and the antidote may be launched “very soon”.
So far, 57.22 crore beneficiaries have been immunized under the nationwide vaccination drive.
