Bijapur: On Friday, three Maoists were shot dead during a clash with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district of Bastar. An SLR and a sniper rifle were taken from them, suggesting that one of them might be a Maoist leader.
According to police, there were specific reports of a group of Maoists in the Usoor-Basaguda-Pamed-Tarrem region’s forests. Around 11 a.m., Bastar IG P Sunderraj reported that a combined team of Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guards (DRG), and CoBRA commandos had spotted them in the forests of Rekhpalli and Komathpalli.
A gunfight that lasted for several hours was defined by intense but intermittent gunfire. The forces pursued the Maoists and engaged them in running gunfights when they attempted to flee. When the gunfire ceased, three uniformed Maoists lay dead. Shells, a pistol, a grenade launcher, an SLR, and a sniper rifle were discovered.
According to the IG, all of the jawans were reported safe, and a search is going on in the area. “Once the bodies are brought to base, the Maoists will be identified,” he continued. The Maoist hotspot of Usoor, Basaguda, and Pamed villages was the place where the gunfight took place. Last month, Maoists killed two villagers in the same area, one of whom was a Congress worker.
