Srinagar: According to an official, three Indian Army paratroopers were injured in an ongoing battle in the forested Chaas region of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. Another clash, the most recent in a string of assaults that have shaken Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks, occurred in the Harwan neighborhood of Srinagar.

Members of cross-border terrorist groups suspected of killing two Village Defense Guards on November 18 in the same area are believed to be trapped in the encounter. After a massive operation against the terrorists by the Indian Army and 11 Rashtriya Rifles, the gunfight broke out.

Around nine in the morning, a gunfight broke out in Srinagar during a cordon and search operation that was started after receiving reports of terrorist activity in the forest area between Dachigam and the upper reaches of Nishat. So far, there have been no reported casualties.

“A joint police and security forces operation was launched in the Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. An exchange of fire ensued during the operation. Further details will follow,” Jammu and Kashmir Zonal Police tweeted.

In recent weeks, there have been numerous gunfights and terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, which have claimed the lives of numerous terrorists and security personnel. In a clash with security forces in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday, one terrorist was killed and two to three others were trapped. During a search, the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. The retaliatory firing killed one of the terrorists.
