The number of active cases stood at 21,13,365 accounting for 5.43 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a rise of 94,540 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.26 per cent reported the highest spike in deaths recording 488 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,88,884.

In a letter to all states and union territories, Union Health Ministry Additional Secretary Vikas Sheel informed that Covid vaccination, including precaution doses, for individuals having resulted positive for coronavirus infection will be deferred by three months after recovery. This notice stemmed from the requests that were received from various quarters for guidance in regard to the administration of precaution dose to the eligible persons having Covid illness. Meanwhile, 74 lakh precaution doses for the identified categories of beneficiaries have been administered so far.
