New Delhi: Day 3 of the Parliament’s monsoon session 2022 saw forced adjournments as Opposition parties continued their demands to discuss price rises and GST on some items of daily use. Opposition parties also held a protest near Mahatama Gandhi’s statue in Parliament to press their demands. The Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha have failed to conduct any significant business since the Monsoon session began on July 18.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the government is not running away from the debate. He further added that the issues could be taken up once Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recovers from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Congress began protesting outside Parliament against the scheduled appearance of party president Sonia Gandhi before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for inquiry in connection to the National Herald money laundering case.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also arrived at ED’s office where his mother Sonia Gandhi is being probed in connection with the National Herald Case. Several Congress leaders have been detained and sent to different police stations across Delhi. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot’s security tried to resist the Delhi Police officials from arresting Gehlot. The leaders shall be released once Gandhi’s questioning is over.
The 75-year old Gandhi reached ED’s office where she will be questioned for her association with the Young India Private Limited, the acquisition of debt-ridden AJL, the subsequent use of AJL’s properties, and company’s association with any non-profit activities.
