West Bengal: After taking over the case from SIT comprising of ADG CID Gyanwant Singh, ADG Western Zone Sanjay Singh and DIG CID (Operations) Meeraj Khalid, the CBI on Saturday has registered an FIR naming 21 people as accused in Birbhum arson case. CBI reportedly visited the spot and filed an FIR after gathering evidence on the incident.
A team of officials from CBI’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory on Friday evening visited the gutted houses of Bogtui village to gather samples for examination. The team comprising of eight members assisted by police personnel was seen at the spot.
Earlier during the day, the Calcutta HC hearing the Arson killings case ordered the State police to hand over the case to the CBI for further investigation. The court which took suo motu cognizance of the violence had instructed the CFSL to gather samples.
The National Commission for Minorites has decided to seek a report from the West Bengal chief secretary over the violence that claimed the lives of eight earlier this week, following which it would dispatch a team to state.
Earlier on 24th March, TMC leader Anarul Hossain was apprehended from Tarapith after he was traced through his network provider by the cops. The arrest was sought right after CM Banerjee directed his immediate arrest over’ administrative negligence’.
Anarul is the president of Rampurhat Block No1. He joined TMC in 1998 and went on to serve as the party’s block president for a decade. Known as a ‘skilled organiser’ within the party ranks, he controls the municipal corporation and the sand mining business in the Rampurhat area.
