New Delhi: India recorded 2,067 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, a major jump from yesterday’s count. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.49 per cent- registering a slight rise. The number of active cases stood at 12,340 accounting for 0.03 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a rise of 480 in the last 24 hours.

Around 1,547 recuperated in the past 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,25,13,248. The recovery rate at 98.76 per cent.  However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.21 per cent reported 40 virus-related deaths, out of which 32 were backlog deaths from Kerala. This took the cumulative death toll to 5,22,006.

The Centre on Tuesday wrote to 3 states reporting a major surge to maintain a strict watch and take pre-emptive measures if required to control the emerging spread. The letter addressed to Delhi, UP, Haryana and Mizoram contributed majorly to India’s COVID-19 caseload and a higher positivity rate. It pressed the states to follow the five-fold strategy of ‘Test Track Treat Vaccination and Adherence to COVID Appropriate Behaiviour’- particularly emphasizing wearing masks.

The National capital in the past 24 hours recorded 632 new infections amidst the sudden uptick. The DDMA is scheduled to hold a meeting to discuss the current situation. Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, and others will be present at the meeting.
