Jammu and Kashmir: Amidst the preparations to welcome PM Modi, Jammu and Kashmir on early Friday morning reported a fierce gun battle between security forces and terrorists near an army installation in the UT. Two terrorists have been slained while one security officer also died. At least 4 other jawans were injured in the battle today, officials said. The deceased officer was an Assistant Sub Inspector, it added.

The encounter began after the pre-dawn operation at the Sunjwan cantonment area was launched as the police acted on the tip-off. The police said they had information about a terrorist attack being planned in the city. The Central Industrial Security forces said the terrorist targeted a bus carrying its personnel.

A CISF official said terrorists attacked a bus carrying 15 personnel in the morning. “The CISF retaliated effectively and forced the terrorists to flee. One CISF officer was killed and two others injured in action,” he said.

PM Modi is scheduled to visit J&K on Sunday to address a major rally that will be attended by thousands of Panchayat members at Palli village. Ahead of the visit security has been put on high alert and round the clock patrolling is being carried out by security forces at various checkpoints to prevent any terrorist attacks.
