Bandara: Two goods trains collided at Onda railway station in Bandara, West Bengal, on Sunday morning, derailing 12 bogies. The collision happened at around 2:30 AM, when the two trains were on their way to Asansol and Dhanbad, respectively.
The impact of the collision was so strong that it damaged the tracks and uprooted trees. The derailed bogies were carrying coal and iron ore, which spilled onto the tracks.
There were no reports of any injuries or deaths in the collision. However, the incident caused a major disruption to train services in the area.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation. However, it is believed that one of the trains may have been speeding.
The collision comes just a month after a horrific triple train collision in Odisha claimed at least 275 lives. That accident was also caused by a speeding train.
The Indian Railways has been under fire for its safety record in recent years. In 2022, there were over 10,000 train accidents in India, resulting in the deaths of over 1,000 people.
The government has promised to improve safety standards on the railways. However, it remains to be seen whether these promises will be kept.
In the meantime, the collision at Onda railway station is a reminder of the dangers of speeding on the railways. It is also a reminder of the need for the government to take urgent action to improve safety standards on the railway.
The two trains involved were the 03560 Up Asansol-Dhanbad goods train and the 03559 Down Dhanbad-Asansol goods train. The collision happened on the Howrah-Barddhaman section of the Eastern Railway. The derailed bogies were carrying a total of 1,200 tonnes of coal and iron ore. While, the collision caused a major disruption to train services in the area, the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
