New Delhi: India reported 18,870 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, Union Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.83 per cent accounted for 28,178 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,29,86,180. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.25 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 30 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 2,85,520 accounting for 0.84 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 9,686 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 378 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,47,751.
Kerala, which cumulatively reported a drastic surge, has now registered a declining COVID curve. However, Tamil Nadu emerges as the second southern state to record rising infections. Maharashtra, the worst hit state reported 281 cases in last 24 hours. Furthermore, Mizoram in the Northeastern belt continued to surpass all other states in their COVID tally.
DGCI permitted vaccine maker Serum Institute to enrol kids aged 7-11 years for its trial of US drugmaker Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine. Serum Institute is already conducting a trial of its COVID-19 vaccine Covovax, a domestically produced version of Novavax’s shot, in the 12-17 age group and has presented safety data for an initial 100 participants.
India’s cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination coverage reached 87.66 crore, the Union Health Ministry. Nearly, 54.13 beneficiaries were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
