New Delhi: India reported 18,833 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.94 per cent accounted for 24,770 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,31,75,656. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.34 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 37 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 2,46,687  accounting for 0.73 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 6,215 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 278 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,49,538.

Kerala continued to report a decline in its fresh infection count in the past few days. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu had emerged as the second southern state with the most number of cases. Neighbouring state Karnataka also reported a decline in its COVID Curve. The state authorities mandated a negative RT-PCR report and at least the first dose of vaccination for officers and artists performing at the Mysuru Dushhera festival beginning on Thursday. On the contrary, citing a drastic surge, West Bengal Govt second in a row has called off its Durgashtami celebrations. Mizoram flagged as the severely affected northeastern state witnessed the arrival of a team from NCDC on Tuesday to assess the situation.

India’s cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination coverage reached 92.17 crores, the Union Health Ministry stated. Nearly, 59.48 lakh beneficiaries were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
