Security forces have detained at least 175 people from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district in a major crackdown following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, authorities said. The operation involved a large number of terrorists who were trying to track down the ones who were responsible for the raids on Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam town on April 22 that had left 26 people dead and many more injured.
Police spokesperson said the detainees included suspected overground workers, the relatives of active militants and other individuals who were believed to be allied to the terror network. Many were released after preliminary investigations, and security forces are questioning some suspects to tear down the terror infrastructure supporting such attacks.
The police official, however, stated in response to the recent tragic events in Pahalgam and as part of intensified anti-terror efforts, that Anantnag Police, along with the Army, CRPF and other security agencies, have launched general search and cordon operations all over the district. He also said that search missions continued at all hours of the day, and for the most part, search missions were active in sensitive zones with increased vigilance.
To prevent any suspicious movements, authorities have put up more Mobile Vehicle Check Points (MVCPS) across Anantnag. CASOs are ongoing in Cordon and Search operations, ambushes of movements and intensified patrolling in high-density forest areas to locate and neutralise remaining terrorist elements.
According to the police officer, all security forces are working in close coordination in order to keep peace and stability in the district. Besides arresting those involved in the Pahalgam attack, we are also finding similar other terror support systems in the region and taking efforts to eliminate them, he said.
It comes after the administration pledged to stay firm against such acts of violence and show strong and swift action to restore the feeling of security in the local population amid the crackdown.
