New Delhi: India recorded 14,306 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, Union Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 98.17 per cent accounted for 18,762 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,35,67,367. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.43 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 21 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 1,67,695 accounting for 0.51 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 4899 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 443 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,54,712.

West Bengal continues to witness a spiking rise after the Durga festival. The state has added 974 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. Northeastern state Assam also continued to record a siginificant spike adding 324 cases for the fifth consecutive day. Amidst the festive season, centre has instructed states to ensure that upcoming festivals are celebrated in a safe and cautious manner with “utmost precautions” directing that “no mass gathering should be allowed in areas identified as containment zones and in districts reporting more than 5 per cent COVID-19 test confirmation rates.”

Over 102 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, including more than 70 lakh doses administered in the last 24 hours.
