JAMMU: The Jammu Zone police achieved significant milestones in 2024, neutralizing 14 foreign terrorists and dismantling 13 terror modules, as per an official statement. These operations spanned multiple districts, including Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, and Kathua, signaling a decisive blow to terror networks in the region.
The police also reported a marked crackdown on overground workers (OGWs), with action taken against 827 individuals, a sharp increase from the 282 in 2023. Furthermore, 180 individuals were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), exceeding last year’s tally of 168.
Crime statistics also highlighted progress, with criminal case registrations dropping from 15,774 in 2023 to 13,163 in 2024. Property theft cases, excluding motor vehicle thefts, saw a decline from 1,321 to 944 cases, with stolen property valued at ₹14.18 crore, down from ₹18.75 crore. Vehicle thefts also fell, with 507 cases reported, and recovery rates marginally improving to 47.48%.
On the anti-drug front, 476 NDPS cases were registered, and significant seizures included 42.99 kg of heroin. Authorities also seized or froze property in 84 NDPS cases, nine of which were confirmed under SAFEMA. The year also saw the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Drug De-addiction Centre in Jammu, offering rehabilitation and reintegration programs.
Cybercrime management saw advancements, with 67 police personnel receiving specialized training. Ten cyber cells across districts are now operational, addressing online fraud cases amounting to ₹4.75 crores.
Authorities credited these outcomes to strategic operations, intensified surveillance, and robust community engagement, ensuring a safer environment across Jammu.
