GUJARAT: As many as twelve family members of Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya, BJP MP from Rajkot, also lost their lives in the Morbi bridge collapse in Gujarat on Sunday evening.
As per information by people in the know, five children and the BJP MPs sister’s family all succumbed to the incident.
NDRF, SDRF and local administration are carrying out the search and rescue operations. All those who survived the mishap have been rescued and efforts are underway to recover the bodies of those in Machchhu river and rescue boats are also at the spot,” the BJP MP said during a media interaction.
Drones are being used to help in the search and rescue operation in Morbi, following the incident of bridge collapse in Morbi.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi told reporters, that the state government has formed a committee to probe the collapse. A five-member Special Investigation team (SIT) team has been formed to investigate the incident. An FIR was lodged in the bridge collapse under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (intentional act causing death) and 114 (abettor present when offence committed), against whoever is found responsible, Sanghavi said.
PM Modi who is in Kevadia, Gujarat, has paused activities on his itinerary further and has announced an ex gratia for those injured and deceased. The state govt has also announced compensation. At a gathering today he expressed condolences at Morbi bridge collapse incident and said, “I am in Ekta Nagar but my heart is with victims of Morbi.”
