RAMESHWARAM: 12 kgs of gold were retrieved from the sea near Mandapam on Thursday. As per inputs, the gold was dumped into the sea by known suspects.
According to sources, a team of officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Coast Guard team kept a watch on the sea on receiving information on the smuggling of gold in the early hours of Wednesday. The suspects however escaped and dumped the gold into the sea. It was on rigorous attempts on Thursday that the details of the gold were revealed and scuba divers were deployed in search of gold.
Scuba divers from Thoothukundi recovered a bag containing gold bars weighing 12 Kilograms.
Further probe is underway.
